COMMENTARY

For many years I have heard the term, Man of God.  I had assumed that it meant every Christian man.  I believe instead that the designation goes far deeper.  Elijah was a man of God.  God could trust him to carry out His work and will on the earth.  He prayed powerful prayers that broke through into the heavens.  He saw and fully believed in the miraculous power of his God.  Thus, the term Man of God means one who has a reputation and habit of holy living.  He is the very one that the community thinks of when they need someone to offer prayer and intercession for their families.  With this designation in mind, search your heart to make this serious statement, “Lord, cause me to become a Man of God!  I want to be the man of God to do God’s great work here on the earth.

One day I was in my laundry room and aloud I said, “Lord I want to be a man of God!”  I repeated this phrase several times, and it seemed as though a hammer was driving the idea into my heart deeper and deeper.  God visited me and let me know that He wanted me to

Wield a mighty sword,

Exacting evil’s loss;

And place myself secure beneath

The shadow of His cross.

I am a man of God!  Just repeating the phrase feels good to my soul.  This is further seen in the following illustration:  As I lay on my bed one day I called our and said, “Lord, if anyone in my neighborhood needs to be shown the love of God, please don’t skip over me to choose another to give this love.  Choose me!  Let me be a vessel of honor to do the work of Christ!”  This is the man of God.  He is eager to be useful to the Lord in any circumstance of life.  Declare yourself to be the man of God, and wait joyfully for God to move in your life so that you can be just that!
