The Cross on Which Lord Jesus Hung – Graphic Print

COMMENTARY

The wood of the cross on which the Lord Jesus hung was quite likely made of green, fresh wood.  As any farmer knows, it is far easier to drive nails into green wood than cured wood.  The joyful idea behind this poem is focused on the thought that no other man had earned the right to be hung upon this cross.  The Lord Jesus was truly the only man in history who lived out his entire life without sin.  His blood, unlike the blood of other men and women was empowered by God, the Father to wash away the sins of untold millions of people.  When Jesus’ blood stained the cross, its content was probably similar to the blood of all other human beings that had ever lived.  There is one major difference.  The blood of Jesus in its shedding was a gift from Him to His Father which satisfied the guilt of all humanity.  This precious blood, when applied to the hearts and minds of sinners, removes the darkest stain of sin and sets the prisoner completely free.  As the old song says, there’s power in the blood!

NOTE: This poem is one of many found in the collection Jewels from His Crown
